Georgia Hart Talks Tech Recruitment

  • Publish Date: Posted over 4 years ago

This week, we interview Georgia Hart, our Digital Consultant from the Become Melbourne office. Georgia specialises in the recruitment in the software and web development space. We ask her what some of the challenges she faces and why she loves working in an agency environment.

"One of the biggest challenges we face when recruiting in technology is competition. So, I had to learn how to use my strengths to my advantage to separate me from the rest of the crowd.

  • I love people- I’m a social person, I love to talk (I’m definitely not the quietest one in the office!)  I love getting to know my clients and candidates on a more personal level rather than treating them like a commodity or transaction.

  • I do my research- I don’t know how to code but I know how to communicate with people that do because I learned the difference between Java & Javascript and how the whole SDLC works from setting up servers, to running databases, to the benefits of using different technology stacks.

  • I love diversity- that is one of the reasons why I still work for an agency and haven’t gone in-house. Working across different technologies in different industries helps me to keep up to date with different technology trends across the market. Having said that, I found who I enjoy recruiting for and have stuck to it. If you’re passionate about what you do and who you work with, the job is easy.

  • I listen & adapt- I didn’t realise how much I love to problem-solve until I got into recruitment. Listening to clients & candidate and helping them overcome their problems is so rewarding. There is nothing better than getting the call to say how much someone is loving their new job that they’ve forgotten how stressed and down they were in their old job. Or filling a role that a client had been struggling to fill for 6 months because we tweaked something in their interview process.

  • I actually consult- Not only do I enjoy finding talent, but enjoy advising on retaining that talent, interview processes, market trends, salary benchmarking, culture. Knowledge is key and I’m eager to share it with anyone. If something isn’t working, I’ll help you find a solution to fix it."
